Engages, Educates, and Empowers Student Filmmakers
Film industry professionals mentor students to step out of their comfort zone and tell their stories. We unleash untapped creativity and encourage the next generation of working filmmakers to transform the culture of the industry.
welcome to the second annual...
about this festival
I think we will all agree that it has been a challenging year not only for filmmakers, but for everyone under the sun. Orange High School students, however, made the best of it, filming most of their footage on their own, via Zoom or spending their time working on documentary footage. We are SO pleased to present to you the results of their hard work over the past year as they tell their unique stories with the help of Orange School District’s Filmmaking and Digital Media classes, and under the supervision of the Career and Technical Education Program.
Speaking of documentaries, there are five excellent ones in this year's festival, all created under the auspices of the Filmmaking and Digital Media Program and in collaboration with Ms. Earle, Ms. Brown and the OHS Dance Program. But there are also films created by students working on their own from home this year, including one that was nominated as a finalist in the NJ Teen Arts competition (along with one of the documentaries). We won't tell you which ones yet! Finally, there are five films created as part of Orange students' participation in last November's FilmBoot24, which was conducted entirely virtually - students and mentors worked via Zoom to create these five films in just 24 hours. Amazing.
All of these short films will be screened and available 24 hours a day, so that anyone, anywhere can stream them online. Industry professionals will judge the films, and on June 9th, the top three films will be announced.
All of this will be done virtually online - the films will remain available for everyone to view throughout the summer and beyond.
Orange Youth Shine Bright is not only a film festival, it is a celebration of the work by Orange student filmmakers. We hope you enjoy these films and share them with friends!
