welcome to the FifTH annual...
about this festival
We are so excited to present to you the amazing work of Orange High School film students for the FIFTH year in a row! This year Danielle Earle's Filmmaking classes, and Shakeila Tabman's Intro to Digital Media students have outdone themselves. Under the supervision of the Career and Technical Education Program run by Jahmel Drakeford, and overseen by Faith Alcantara, the Executive Director of Innovation and Special Projects the students have participated in FilmBoot24 and DocFilmBoot, Cinema Ed's premier bootcamps for Orange HS students, and also made their own films along the way.
A big THANK YOU to Ms. Earle and Ms. Tabman, as well as the Drew Univ. student mentors and Cinema Ed mentors who worked with the OHS students on many of their films. 12 of the films in this film festival were created by teams of Orange students during the FilmBoot24 Weekend Bootcamp at Drew University last November and the DocFilmBoot documentary Bootcamp in February and March.
All of these short films are online and available 24 hours a day, so that anyone, anywhere can stream and screen them online. Industry and local professionals will judge the films, and on June 9th, the top three films will be announced. Special THANKS to our industry judges Brit Harley, Yucef Mayes and Dustin Dumas for giving their time to watch and judge these films.
We are proud to announce that monetary awards this year are being given courtesy of the SOMA Film Festival. The top three films will receive the following awards:
First Place: $300
Second Place: $200
Third Place: $100
Each award will be split with all members of the filmmaking team and will be given in the form of Visa gift cards. (For example, if the first place team has five members, they will each receive a $60 gift card.)
Orange Youth Shine Bright is not only a film festival, it is a celebration of the work by Orange student filmmakers. We hope you enjoy these films and share them with friends!! All the films will remain available for everyone to view throughout the summer and beyond.
