Engages, Educates, and Empowers Student Filmmakers
Film industry professionals mentor students to step out of their comfort zone and tell their stories. We unleash untapped creativity and encourage the next generation of working filmmakers to transform the culture of the industry.
welcome to the third annual...
about this festival
One of the silver linings of the past two years is that we discovered the power and reach of offering a Virtual Film Festival format for presenting the work of Orange High School students. For that reason, even though we are (thankfully!) back in person at Orange HS, mentoring classes on a weekly basis, we are very pleased to present to you the results of OHS film students' hard work over the past year as they worked together, with the help of Orange School District’s Filmmaking and Digital Media classes, and under the supervision of the Career and Technical Education Program.
We are so excited about this year's group of filmmakers. Even though they were able to film in person, you will notice that masks are still a big part of school life, so most of the films have students in masks if they contain scenes that have more than one student. A big SPECIAL THANKS to Danielle Earle, the OHS film and media teacher, who teaches, encourages and supports the students every day. FYI, five of the films in this film festival were created by teams of Orange students during the FilmBoot24 Weekend Bootcamp at Drew University last November.
All of these short films are online and available 24 hours a day, so that anyone, anywhere can stream and screen them online. Industry and local professionals will judge the films, and on June 9th, the top three films will be announced. There will be monetary awards presented to the top three winning films - $500 first place, $300 second place, $200 third place. (Note: if there is more than one filmmaker, the award will be split between the members of the team.)
All of this will be done virtually online - the films will remain available for everyone to view throughout the summer and beyond.
Orange Youth Shine Bright is not only a film festival, it is a celebration of the work by Orange student filmmakers. We hope you enjoy these films and share them with friends!!
